Image Theory

Kristine Nielsen’s essay explores the concept of imagery from many perspectives that I had not considered. The first thing that comes to mind when I try to theorize about the word Image is the mass media: slogans and billboards communicating at a large scale. An image mediates the perspective of its subject matter to the viewer. It is often easy to overlook the medium and identify with the encouraged message. Before I read this essay I had never really thought of the word ‘image’ as vocal, mental, sculptural or perceptual. There are infinite circumstances where Images can distort reality. I wonder if an image can exist that is not a reproduction, and what implications that might have on it’s viewer… I’ll take a picture if see one.
